Quick Tips: Keep Your Teen From Being a Victim—or a Bully

It’s a sad fact that violence has increased everywhere, and more kids are becoming bullies and victims. But the good news is that you can help stop these behaviors. Here's how:
  • Be positive. Look for opportunities to praise your mentee's efforts and build self-esteem.
  • Set a good example. If you’re too aggressive or too passive, your mentee may be, also. Model the behaviors you want your mentee to learn.
  • Role-play alternatives with your mentee to being a bully or victim. Victims might say, “Stop bothering me,” and walk away. Or they might laugh at a mild taunt. Bullies can learn better ways of meeting their needs.
