Respect for Others

A healthy respect for people is an important basis for a productive learning environment.

Work with your mentee on common courtesies, like saying "thank you" and "excuse me" are said out of respect. Being honest with other people—not deceiving, cheating or stealing from them—is one way of respecting them. Being tolerant of their views and differences is another.

When you watch TV with your mentee, talk about the behavior you see in the shows. Are the characters being respectful?

Treat your mentee with courtesy and tell him that you place a high value on respecting others. Then praise him when you see him being courteous and respectful.
