Thrifty Thursday: Clothing Closets

Do you have a mentee in need of clothing or other items?   Families who live in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia can receive a number of free or low cost items from clothing closets. Most of the centers will try to provide items for free, however some locations (such as thrift stores) may sell the goods at a reduced price to the general public.

Some centers may provide more than just clothes. Locations may have on site volunteers or case managers who will help individuals find a job, apply for government aid, or access other self-sufficiency programs. While most of the locations do rely on the generosity of people in the community, the closets may have items such as shoes, winter coats, school supplies, and more. Some household goods may also be available at the Virginia Beach centers as well.

Call these locations first and ask about bringing your mentee in for some free assistance.

Kids Closet can provide clothing for children and teenagers. It is operated by Virginia Beach United Methodist Church.
