Mentor Monday: Meet Robert

Q. Who are your mentees?
A. Khari, 14 years old, and Calvin, 19 years old

Q. How long have you been a mentor?

A. 3 years

Q. What is the best thing about mentoring?
A. Knowing that I am a positive influence in a young man's life.

Q. What has the biggest challenge been?
A. My biggest challenge is gaining trust in my mentees.  It's a long term project to get them to be consistent with communication; keeping appointments, returning phone calls.

Q. What made you become a mentor?
A. I've had plenty of mentors when I was growing up.  They all played a different role in developing my character and attitude.

Q. Why would you recommend someone become a mentor?
A. I would recommend only if they understand it's not about the mentor, but the mentee.

Q. What was the biggest surprise about mentoring?
A. No surprises. Not yet.
